Personal:

Started running in November 2007 to get fit. Now I'm back almost to square one after back surgery. I did it once and I'll do it again.

"In truth, runners don't race other runners. They race against themselves: to conquer their wills, to transcend their weaknesses, to beat back their nightmares. And while a runner can't actually beat himself, he can beat his time. Even years into running, he can get better."  Running for His Life by Michael Hall.

9PM: I really need to do these long runs in the early AM. It was 90+ when I left the house and didn't cool off much even after the sun went down. Brought water but no calories. Ended up running out of gas at about 10 miles so I cut my planned 17 miler to 14 miles. Made no sense to push it if I'm just shuffling on a death march.

14 miles in the 90s sounds awful. Looks like you got in a good streak of AM runs this past week though! Hopefully getting into a rhythm with it will help. I think I average 6.5 - 7 hrs of sleep and it never feels like enough when the alarm goes off. But at least that makes it all the easier to pass out at 9:30pm.

It'll take some time to train my body to go to bed earlier. My wife and I are total night owls and she HATES it when I go to bed before her. Not because I snore either, I'm not a snorer. :)

We have the same problem. I'd love to go to bed at 8:30, and she'd probably prefer much later, but 9:30 was kind of the compromise she's begrudgingly accepted...as long as she has her iPhone and TV for when I'm asleep (10 seconds after laying down).
