Personal:

Started running in November 2007 to get fit. Now I'm back almost to square one after back surgery. I did it once and I'll do it again.

"In truth, runners don't race other runners. They race against themselves: to conquer their wills, to transcend their weaknesses, to beat back their nightmares. And while a runner can't actually beat himself, he can beat his time. Even years into running, he can get better."  Running for His Life by Michael Hall.

Good TM run this evening.  Started slow and ended strong.  Starting out my marathon training this week based on a Runner's World plan.

Tempo Run:  1M warmup; 4M @ 7:40/mi pace; cooldown.  I was surprised that I could hold that pace as well as I did.  Been a long time since I even tried to run hard.  Felt good.

Easy recovery run on the TM. Legs a little sore from yesterday but not bad.

Speed work: 1M warmup; 1M @ 7:08/mi; .5M jog; .5M @ 7:08/mi; cool down.  I was supposed to do 2 mile repeats of 7:08/mi but I was really laboring on the second and had to cut it short.  This was the fastest I've ever run on a TM (8.4 mph).

Long, slow run today.  Felt much better this week although I did tire after 9M.  I attribute that to the route which had a lot of mini-hills between miles 3 and 8.

Slow, easy run on TM.  Despite my better judgment, I registered for Robie Creek 1/2 today.  I guess I didn't learn my lesson but if this doesn't light a fire under my arse nothing will.

Lunchtime tempo run on the greenbelt.  Warmup, 4M @ 7:42, and cooldown.  Weather was perfect for running outdoors w/ temp in the high 40's, overcast and no wind.

Easy run on TM.  Left heel is really sore.  Not painful while I run but I'm wondering if that's because I've altered my stride/foot fall to compensate?

Easy and short TM run.  Saving some energy for tomorrow's long run which hopefully won't be shortcuited by my campout w/ the Boy Scouts tonight.

Finally getting over this horrible head cold I developed after taking the Boy Scouts camping in the snow over the weekend.  4M of light hill work on the TM (topping out at 4% incline).

640AM: 5 easy miles on the TM; a little sore from last night's late hill training.  Starting two-a-days today to make up for Monday and Tuesday.  I'll try to continue them through the marathon in early May.

9PM: some light core work followed by 5 easy miles on the TM; bad blister on the top of one of my toes that bled horribly.  Who knew that you could bleed so much from such a tiny little cut?

Long, slow easy run in the rain.  Felt really good for the first 10 but I really struggled after that.  Partly from poor fitness, partly from being water logged and partly due to an enormous stomach ache.
