Personal:

Started running in November 2007 to get fit. Now I'm back almost to square one after back surgery. I did it once and I'll do it again.

"In truth, runners don't race other runners. They race against themselves: to conquer their wills, to transcend their weaknesses, to beat back their nightmares. And while a runner can't actually beat himself, he can beat his time. Even years into running, he can get better."  Running for His Life by Michael Hall.

8PM: Medium long run. Left glute/hammy was tight and achy. Felt strong otherwise. This is a recurring theme and frankly I should probably stop mentioning it unless/until it gets better or worse.

1230PM: Easy + speed (7 x 20 secs strides) in last mile. Ran on GB from AM Park to Willow Lane and back. More fires are suffocating the valley. If it gets worse I may start running on the dreadmill at the club. Haven't done that since the spring.

4 x 25 pushups

630AM: Easy recovery run. Most of the run was in the dark but even after the sun was up it was still pretty dark. We really need some rain to get rid of all this smoke.

BSU v. BYU @ Bronco Stadium tonight!

1230PM: Greenbelt from AM Park to Willow Lane. 5 min w/u; 30 min tempo (effort not pace :( ); easy 5 min; 5 min tempo; c/d. Just didn't have it today. Ran it at slightly above HM pace. Maybe its because I didn't get a lot of sleep last night after getting home late from the offensive crapfest that took place at Bronco Stadium last night. BSU won but I think the rules is that anytime your 300+ nose tackle provides ALL of your offense it should count as a loss. Lotta smoke too. It's literally overcast from all the smoke from all the forest fires.

4 x 25 pushups.

2PM: easy long run. Cloudy/smoky and humid. Last long run of this cycle. Hard to believe SGM is only 2 weeks away. Focus from here on out is healing, strengthening and eating right. I don't feel anywhere near as fit as I was for UVM in June but it ended up not mattering. So much of marathoning comes down to environmental factors and mental preparation/toughness. I think I can make some incremental improvement by not repeating the mistakes of the past and hopefully taking advantage of better course conditions this time around.

4 x 25 pushups.
